Frequently Asked Questions

What is Transforming Youth Recovery?

Transforming Youth Recovery is a 501(C)3 non-profit public charity that invests in the future of our youth and families by bringing research, solution-based programs, and resources to substance use disorders, transforming the pathway for lifetime recovery. The organization was founded in 2012 and is based in Reno, Nevada.

What does Transforming Youth Recovery do?

TYR conducts research studies on the current state of the recovery field at different stages of a young person’s educational life, from preK through college. The research includes a thorough inventory and gaps analysis of community assets which are available to support prevention, intervention and recovery, as well as recommendations based on best practices. TYR uses the results of the research to design and fund pilot programs that address the gaps and build capacity using community-based resources. We then share these programs with the nation so that they can be successfully replicated in other communities. All our research studies are available at no cost through our website.

Our work focuses on the educational system from preK-12 through college. Our goal is to give every student a healthy and supportive place to learn and grow. We are also working to give every family the tools and resources they need to be their children’s best advocates.

We currently have three active programs: the Collegiate Recovery Program, Capacitype, and the prek-12 Mathewson Early Prevention Program. Our completed programs include reinvigorating the Association of Recovery Schools which oversees accrediting recovery high schools throughout the United States.

Does Transforming Youth Recovery provide grants to other organizations?

In the past we have provided funding to other non-profit organizations to help them with a specific goal or need. Currently, we are not accepting requests for funding.
